The Sun's article on the sorry state of public safety in Baltimore City and the administration's recent downward revision in progress estimates demonstrates that many in low-income Baltimore see no improvement and lays the blame for police misconduct and inadequate staffing squarely at the feet of the Commissioner and his appointer, the Mayor who would be king.

Many in upper-income Baltimore see no improvement, either, mostly because we're being robbed by lower-income Baltimore at an alarmning rate.
You know Donovan and O'Malley used to go out drinking together at the Mick O'Shea's... wonder if they still hang out!
Here's the thing that very few people understand. Improving the crime rates of certain upper income locations will have no bearing on crime in all of the city. Basically, if you get rid of trouble in one neighborhood here, the other neighborhoods will bring it back.
If the mayor actually cared about the issue of crime for middle class then he'd make more efforts to help the entire city, including ones he knows won't bring him tax revenue.
As sad as it sounds, part of me actually hope that O'M wins, so that we can get someone who actually gives a damn about the city. We'll still have to deal with at least twelve months of 'Oh, Sheila' Dixon, but at least we can get a genuine conversation started about the crime issue.
